Easy Harmonica Music
by Christopher Flynn — Wednesday, September 09, 2009
I've been playing my harmonica a lot, really trying to work on those single notes. I can do ok though I occasionally hit the adjacent note. I've also played around with bending notes but I've resolved that I should continue practicing single notes. Since my last introductory post, I've found some more resources.
First there's Adam Gussow's modernbluesharmonica.com where I'd love to purchase his beginner's package or his tone clinic but with cash flow the way it is, I'll have to wait. If anyone has purchased it, please let me know (either in the comments or the contact form) what you think of it. He has a lot of good stuff on his youtube channel but this looks to be a more focused beginner lesson.
One of the things everyone stresses is hitting these single notes. So I've been practicing the C scale (4,-4,5,-5,6,-6,-7,7) almost every time I pick up my harmonica because it's short and easy. Of course just playing this scale could get rather boring, and we want to enjoy playing because if it's not fun, we won't practice. So I've also been playing some easy songs.
One article recommends some basic songs like "Mary Had A Little Lamb" and then "Row, Row, Row your boat" and then "The Marine's Hymn." Adam Gussow recommends starting with Oh Suzanna, he has a video that's part of his beginner's special or you can buy it separately. His tab is also available though I recommend this one as Adam's is just a scanned hand drawn tab.
Ezfolk.com also has a harmonica section that has links to a few tabs, some of which I've linked to above (the pdfs). Harmonica4kids.com also has a handful of easy songs and seems to be part of harmonicalessons.com which has some free tabs as well.
So keep practicing and have fun!
