What is a Browser?
by Christopher Flynn — Saturday, August 22, 2009
Do you know what a browser is? As a web developer this video left me speechless. If you don't know, a browser is a program used to access the web. Usually when developing a website, a lot of focus is faced on usability, ie. how easy is it to navigate a website. Web developers also have to make sure sites work with different browsers so it's only natural for us to take it for granted. Heck, I have 4 browsers installed on my laptop and even more available via virtual machines.
There are a lot of browsers out there and if all you've ever used is whatever is installed on your computer, I encourage you to check out Firefox. The main reason I prefer Firefox are the plugins that are available for it. As a web developer, there are a number of plugins that I couldn't do without. Google Chrome looks interesting because of it's speed but I still couldn't live without Firefox.
I'm sure Google was out there trying to raise awareness about Chrome which is a decent browser. Just promise me one thing, if you are still using IE 6.0, please at the very least upgrade to the latest IE.
